About this scene

A flat slab of rock and moss hangs in empty air, far above a haze of blue mountain ridges. Rising from it is a broad old tree with a twisting trunk and a spreading crown of olive leaves, caught by low golden light. Next to the trunk stands a tiny stone shrine with a pitched roof and a few steps. Much of the island's surface is a still, shallow pool edged with moss, and a few strands of root dangle from the underside. The sky moves from warm peach at the horizon to clear blue overhead.

On the right edge the pool overflows, and two streams of white water pour off the island and fall out of frame. That fall is the part of the picture in motion, a constant soft rush against an otherwise motionless sunset. The tree and shrine sit slightly left of centre, leaving clear sky above and to the left for overlays.
